A Smile Reimagined: Restoring Function, Esthetics, and Confidence at Ora Dental
By: Dr. Francis Villaroman

At Ora Dental, every smile tells a story, some just need to be retold the right way.
This case highlights a comprehensive smile transformation for a patient who came to us with concerns about her existing eight-unit veneer restorations. While her previous treatment aimed to enhance esthetics, the outcome resulted in veneers that appeared opaque, bulky, and unnatural. Over time, this not only compromised her smile harmony but also significantly affected her confidence.

Initial Presentation and Challenges
The patient, currently based abroad, had a strict three-week window in the Philippines to complete her treatment—making precise planning and efficient execution critical.
Upon clinical and radiographic evaluation, several key issues were identified:
Opaque veneers affecting natural light transmission
Compromised oral hygiene due to difficulty cleaning
Loss of proper occlusion
Pulpal involvement in one tooth, requiring endodontic intervention
The Journey to a Natural Smile
With limited time and high expectations, every step had to be intentional.
We began by addressing the underlying health concerns. One tooth required root canal treatment to eliminate infection and preserve its structure. At the same time, thorough oral prophylaxis was performed, improving gingival health and creating a clean, stable foundation for the planned restorations. These initial steps were crucial — because no esthetic result can be successful without biological stability.
As we progressed, it became clear that the previous veneers had significantly altered her bite. The excessive thickness had led to a loss of proper occlusion, affecting both function and comfort. Through careful assessment and adjustments, we recalibrated her bite, restoring balance and harmony between the upper and lower teeth. This stage played a key role in ensuring that the final restorations would not only look natural, but also function properly long-term.
With health and function re-established, we transitioned into redesigning her smile. The old veneers were meticulously removed, revealing the natural teeth beneath and allowing us to start with a clean slate. A new smile design was crafted with a focus on translucency, proportion, and facial harmony — moving away from the opaque, artificial look of her previous restorations.
Her upper veneers were replaced with restorations that better mimic natural enamel, allowing light to pass through more realistically. To further enhance the overall balance of her smile, veneers were also placed on the lower teeth. This ensured a seamless integration between both arches, avoiding the contrast that often occurs when only the upper teeth are treated.

The Outcome
Within a limited timeframe of three weeks, we were able to deliver a smile that is:
Functionally stable
Periodontally healthy
Esthetically natural and balanced
Most importantly, the patient regained her confidence — now wearing a smile that feels as good as it looks.
Final Thoughts
Smile transformations are not just about making teeth whiter or straighter. They require a deep understanding of biology, function, and esthetics working together.
At Ora Dental, we believe that the best results come from treating the smile as a whole — not just individual teeth.
